“Retelling” is a project on the transformation of meaning in the course of collective transmission. The same story, retold in turn by forty people, makes it possible to observe how facts, emphases, intonation and the very structure of the narrative shift from one person to the next.
The story is recorded in two formats: each retelling was first captured as audio, then transcribed into text. Forty sheets bearing the printed versions form an exhibition row in which the distortion becomes visible as a sequence — not as the error of an individual narrator, but as a regularity of transmission itself.
The project addresses the mechanisms underlying rumour, gossip and the media circulation of information. Fairy tales and myths took shape by the same principle: over centuries their plots accrued details and shifted their original meaning. A private utterance, passing through a chain of interpretations, becomes part of a shared field of meaning.
